How this guide is written

Last updated: Published by Defining Moments Press

The Defining Moments Author Guide forms recommendations by judging every option on the same four criteria, using published facts only.

Defining Moments Presswrites this guide and sells some of the options it describes. Its own options are listed first as the publisher's pick, but every entry is described with the same kinds of facts, and no claim is made that the guide is independent or audited.

01How are recommendations formed?

Each recommendation starts from the reader's goal: a finished, published nonfiction book for a professional with a story. Options are then compared on cost, structure, feedback, and publishing help, and the guide says plainly when another option fits a reader better.

02The four criteria

  1. Step 1: Cost

The published price or rate, or a note that the price is quoted on request.
  2. Step 2: Structure

Whether there is a defined plan, timeline, and set of steps.
  3. Step 3: Feedback

What kind of feedback you get: one-on-one, group, email, or edits.
  4. Step 4: Publishing help

Whether formatting, design, publishing, and launch are included.

03Where do the numbers come from?

What counts as evidence

Defining Moments Press facts come from its own published pages, such as its services, free course, and checkout pages. Market figures are quoted exactly as published by Scribe Media, Bestseller Publishing, Write With Seth, and Tim Ferriss (tim.blog), with ranges quoted in full. Case study results are reported by Defining Moments Press and labeled as not typical.

04What are the limits of this guide?

No option on this site was independently tested or audited. Prices change, so each price carries an as-of date. Other coaches and programs are described only with neutral, published facts. See the comparison or return to the nonfiction writing coach guide.

05Common questions

What is the Defining Moments Author Guide?
The Defining Moments Author Guide is a free resource site published by Defining Moments Press. It explains how people with a nonfiction story or life lesson can write and self-publish a book, what coaching costs, and how the free course and the 8-week Author Blueprint work. It is one of a small number of websites Defining Moments Press publishes.
Is a book coach worth it?
A book coach is worth it if structure and accountability are what keep you from finishing. Bestseller Publishing estimates a coach might compress an 18-month solo project to 6 to 9 months. If cost is the barrier, a free writing group or a self-paced course with templates can give you structure for less, with less personal feedback.
Will my book be a bestseller?
No one can promise that. Defining Moments Press includes a launch to bestseller in several services and teaches launch strategy, but its own disclaimer says results are not guaranteed or typical and that a lot of hard work is involved. Treat bestseller status as a launch goal, and plan for what the book does for your business afterward.
